Swing sets help kids stay active and healthy

Kids need exercise just as much as adults do. Unless you’ve got yourself an early developing athlete, you won’t find them doing pushups and sit ups in their room or running laps around the backyard. A great way to help keep your children in shape is to install a Wood Swingset in your backyard. Swing sets are great because they give young people a chance to get some exercise while having fun. It doesn’t matter if you have an only child, or a many children, a customizable wood play set will give them a chance to stay active, keep fit and have fun doing it.

You may already have some exercise equipment in the garage, or even a weight room in your home, but those items do not contain much appeal for most children. A Wood Swingset is wonderful because you can choose to add or remove any segment that you choose. Items like monkey bars are a good choice because of their inherent exercise value. Of course it is fun to swing across from one side to the other, but the bars can also be used for pull ups. Chin ups are not the most exciting of exercises on their own but when you get to do them on a piece of play equipment it’s easier to make a game out of it.

Wood Swingsets are a great way to inspire competition amongst young children. With a little imagination, kids can come up with all sorts of games that will allow them to get in a good workout outdoors while they are playing and getting some sunshine. A swing set can also help your kids develop hand eye coordination. Learning to pump their legs on the swings to gain momentum or going across the monkey bars. These types of activities will also strengthen the upper body and prepare them for more strenuous activities that they will be faced with at school and during sports later in life.

Whip your backyard into shape

A Wood Swingset can be a wonderful addition to your backyard décor whether you live in a big city or a small country town. If you are fortunate enough to have a yard at all you will want to put a lot of effort into its appearance. As a major extension of your home, the backyard is big part of your personal expression as it pertains to your living space. Worst case scenario: your yard becomes a weed-infested storage area with no personality and no real pragmatic purpose other than holding your seldom used items and refuse. Instead, unlock its true potential and make your backyard a place where you can relax and entertain.

The first step in decorating your backyard and turning it into a place that you can be proud of is to clean it up and get things organized. A storage shed can help you to remove some of the bigger eye sores like garbage cans, portable barbeque pits and other large items that may be necessary but only used for special occasions or certain seasons. Get the kids involved by moving some of their larger toys from inside to the backyard. Play tents, small bicycles and other big recreation items could be kept outside as a complement to a Wood Swingset instead of cluttering up the living room or garage.

It can be a huge task restoring order to a big backyard. There are a few things you can do to motivate yourself into getting the job done in a timely manner. One trick is to schedule a party or gathering at your house within the next few months and tell your guests that it will be held outdoors. The pressure of knowing your yard will soon be on display may be just the thing to spring you into action. You don’t necessarily have to go all out spending big money on furniture and decorations. Check your local papers for second hand items or go by a few garage sales and you might be surprised at the bargains you will find.

Enjoying the summer months with outdoor activities–Swingset.com

Use a swingset to get your children off the couch and into the backyard

In the spring and summer months, there are more daylight hours available and they should never go to waste. Too often, children are allowed to remain indoors all day, cooped up in their rooms or in front of the television set. In harsh winter storms this may be a necessity, but when the weather is nice it is important for young people to get out of doors and spend some time enjoying nature. All able-bodied people should feel obligated to get fresh air everyday and spend some time under the sun. If you happen to live in a region that observes daylight saving time, then the extra hours of daylight are that much more pronounced.

Some kids love to be outside. They enjoying riding bikes, climbing trees, or playing sports with their friends, and that is great. Other kids need some persuasion to put the remote control down, or get away from their computer, or get their nose out of a book. This is not to say that children should be discouraged from reading or studying, but there should be a balance between indoor and outdoor activities, should the weather be pleasant. If you have kids that would rather spend the day in their rooms instead of in the backyard, here is an idea that might inspire them to go outside and play:

A Wooden Swingset is a great way to lure the kids out of the house. They come in all shapes and sizes and many can be customized to fit your space needs and your children’s preferences for play equipment. It can also be a fun family project to assemble the structure and it also will give the kids a sense of accomplishment having helped to build something.

Most young children go through a phase when all they want is to have a tree house. Every weekend they will beg and plead for their parents to buy some wood and help them build a fort up in the oak tree. This can be quite an involved process. If you are not the handy man type or not someone who enjoys spending hours at the home improvement store, then building a tree house is probably just not in the cards. The great thing about a Wooden Swingset is that is can satisfy that desire for a tree house without the hassle of having to actually build one. It is made out of wood first of all, so it’s got that rugged outdoor feel to it. If you choose the kind that has a fort built in then you may be able to kill two birds with one stone. Most kits will come with all the necessary materials, you just need to have a few tools and supply the man power to put it together.

Wood Or Metal?  Which Swing Set Is Right For Your Children?

When choosing which type of swing set is right for you, there are many options available and it is important to do your research before making any purchases.  The most common question people have about choosing swing sets is whether it best to have a Wooden Swing Set or a metal swing set.  Several years ago, there would be no debate at all.  It was metal or nothing.  But with recent advancements, wood treatments have made it much more feasible to construct play sets out of wood.  In the end, it really just boils down to personal preference, but there are a few key things one may consider before making a purchase.

What type of structures do you want included with your swing set?

Slides, ladders, forts, monkey bars and more can call be included with your swing set depending on your particular needs as far as space restrictions and age appropriateness.  It is typically easier to customize a Wooden Swing Set, while their metal counterparts are usually have fewer options available.

Does the appearance of the swing set need to match any other furniture or structures?

Some prefer a Wooden Swing Set because it has a rustic look to it and will blend in nicely with trees and other shrubbery.  If you live in a rural area then you might not want the pastoral scenery to be interrupted by a metallic structure in your backyard.

Will you be responsible for maintaining your swing set?

Both wooden and metal swing sets need to be properly maintained with regular service and the appropriate weather treatments.  While metal is susceptible to rust, wood could crack or splinter creating a dangerous environment for your children.  Both materials must be treated with a special type of coating to protect your play equipment from the elements.

How much do you want to spend on your swing set?

For some, money is no object and will spend any amount on play sets for their children.  For others, the price tag will be the deciding factor in their purchase.  Wooden sets tend to be cheaper than metal ones, but often times there is a lot assembly required.  If you do have the proper tools or are not particularly handy, then you may want to hire a professional to help with the installation.  It is very important that the structure be sound and sturdy because it will be holding precious cargo: your children!

Before installing your swing set, whether you choose wood or metal, make sure you take all the necessary safety precautions.  There are a number of factors such as size, location, and adult supervision that you must take into account.  I will discuss these further in my next article.  Remember: Safety first! Have fun.
